Love Thine Enemies, or Creating Love
Greetings! This Sunday, October 5th, we proffer “Aloha” to our brother, the Rev. Shannan Powell who astounds us with his dedication to our congregation by flying over 2500 miles to speak to us. Rev. Shannan’s message is:
☮️ LOVE THINE ENEMIES or, CREATING LOVE ☮️
The above sculptures represent a historic event that took place during WWI:
“The Christmas Truce of 1914 was an unofficial ceasefire during World War I, where British and German soldiers on the Western Front temporarily stopped fighting to sing carols, exchange gifts, and even play football in no man's land. This event occurred on December 24 and 25, 1914, and highlighted a moment of humanity amidst the brutal conditions of war.”
It must have seemed insane to then pick up arms and go back to fighting after having shared such a light-hearted and loving experience.
Who reading this right now has a hard time imagining loving their “enemies?” Perhaps, going forward, we can picture ourselves laughing, singing, and exchanging gifts with those whom we have tarred with that ugly word. Peace, Love, and Forgiveness begins with us.
This Sunday, when we sing along with Tom and our beloved PNTC Choir, we will be picturing our “enemies,” and holding love for them in our hearts.
